J.T. Realmuto Homecoming King?

The Phillies on Friday offered J.T. a three figure deal. The deal was reported 5-Years 100+ million dollars. This was the reported deal after former Washington Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki (37) signed a 1-Year deal with the Angles worth 1.5 million dollars. With catchers like Mike Zunino and James McCann off the table its looking more and more like the Phillies might just end up retaining the fanbase proclaimed “Best Catcher In Baseball”.

The Phillies in 2019 traded Sixto Sanchez, Jorge Alfaro, Southpaw Will Stewart and international money for the then 28 year old catcher J.T. Realmuto. Would be a huge disappointment if Owner John Middleton can’t come to an agreement with the big name catcher. Not only would it stir chaos in the fanbase but it wouldn’t make their house hold name (Bryce Harper) exactly happy. Last year he yelled up to the top of Citizens Bank Park to John and said “SIGN HIM” obviously talking about JT.

It’s no surprise the catcher wants to make a change for his position but it was reported his asking price is 6-Years 180 million dollars. My personal opinion, no 30 year old catcher is worth that much. 120 million for 5-6 years is a fair offer to me. Getting JT signed could be a stepping stone in breaking the 10 year playoff drought. 2011 was the last time the Phillies made the playoffs, it was also the last time they had the winning season. 2021 will be a true test for John and company. The fanbase is getting anxious and is about ready to give John Middleton the 1993 Mitch Williams treatment. Figure it out John. We’re not gonna wait much longer.
